World's Happiest Country

Search the Web with WebCrawler

How can we determine whether a country is a ‘happy’ country? First, we must ask: how abundant is their economy? How reliable is the government? Are the citizens well-educated, do they have a sense of freedom, are they safe and secure? In order to answer these questions, I have surveyed people from a range of countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, Finland, the Netherlands, Switzerland , Ireland and Brazil.  When I picture Brazil  i see Paradise and Jungle and that people in Brazil are always happy and friendly.

I choose to look at these countries because they have democratic governments, relatively small populations, personal freedoms and their governments collect taxes in order to provide many benefits to their citizens. It should be noted that some of these countries are multicultural – that is, they include a diverse mix of different cultures and ethnicities, such as the USA and Canada – while other countries are homogenous (in other words, most of the population have similar backgrounds).

Asian countries, such as  Hongkong, can also be considered as  one happiest countries. Hongkong presents a fast-paced, digital life – it is almost addictive. Yet no matter how stressful and busy life in  Hongkokng  may be, people will continue to return to this small yet captivating island – so yes, the people of Hongkong are happy, and so are the people that visit  Hongkong.

I would considered India as one of the happiest people, and country  when you  of think India  you think about  Bollywood  -  vivid colors, exotica, music, beautiful women and the graceful body movements.  People were dancing, celebrating, worry-free  from young people to older generation it doesnt matter if you are rich or poor.  India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

The Philippines can also be considered as a happy country. The factors involved in gauging the happiness of the Filipinos included average life expectancy, quality of life, and environmental track record. Although the Filipinos are perhaps not satisfied with the politics and economics of their country, they can be considered as generally happy people. You see, happiness is not all about money – spirituality plays a very important in Filipino culture, and this almost certainly allows them positivity in the face of any financial issues.

To conclude, happiness does not completely rely on abundance of money, good education, or great jobs. A country can still be happy if all they have is hope – a belief that life will get better, that the future will be brighter. Of course, this also means that rich countries are not necessarily happy, for the people of a country may still feel directionless and unsafe despite monetary security. What do you think makes people happy? Are people happy in your country? Why or why not?

Thank you for reading.

  1. Thanks Emmanuel for poetically describing factors of happiness in populations. I feel freedom is paramount to happiness, and democracy is one way of entertaining the philosophy of freedom. Keep up the good work!

  2. I think life expectancy is a huge factor in overall happiness in a society. I was reading something recently about how life expectancies are going down in the US because our diet is so bad. When I think about all the fats and processed foods and chemicals we eat, unfortunately I'm not surprised. I have switched to organic food products for the most part, but I'm not sure it will be enough!

  3. For me, although I'd like to visit Hong Kong, I don't think I could be happy living there because it is a very crowded and busy urban environment. I prefer to have a lot of open space, and I like to have the easy option "get away" from other people.

I think my preferences come from growing up in the American West, where we have the luxury of lots of open space.

  4. According to Forbes Magazine - Luxembourg is the healthiest nation on Earth. Iceland is the safest and Switzerland has the world’s best economy. They have a different criteria for happy countries based on their living lifestyle, most wealthy people are coming from Scandanavian countries and Norway takes the crown, followed by Denmark ,Sweden and Finland are the Happiest People.

The Gallup organization did a recent survey seeking to determine which country had the happiest people by going out to 148 countries and asking thousands of people, and according to Gallup’s findings, the happiest people in the world live in Panama and Paraguay, followed by El Salvador and Venezuela, then Trinidad and Tobago, Thailand, Guatemala, the Philippines, Ecuador and Costa Rica.

  6. For me it's Canada!Because Canada scores extremely well in the majority of metrics used to calculate “well-being.” The country has the tenth greatest life expectancy of all OECD countries. Also, 88% of people in Canada report being in “good health,” compared to the OECD average of 69%plus we have hockey!

  7. I would have to agree with Eva because it does not matter where you live if you do not have freedom. But i think you said it best

  9. most people lives in country because the country is financially uplifited without checking other factors like the health factor, human behaviour, crime rate and many more.

most countries that are rich usually face more challenges.

  10. Nice article , i appreciate for considering India as one of the Most Happy people, in fact many visitors came to india were happy during their stay . India is a vast country with an abundance of appealing attractions like mountains, desert, beaches, nature, temples, and history > scattered from one side of its soil to the other. Therefore, planning an India vacation requires considerable thought as to the top places to visit.

    1. A social gathering like in India , a garland of flowers is often placed around a guest's neck. Remove it after a few minutes and carry it in your hand to show humility.

Allow hosts to serve you. Never refuse food, but don’t feel obligated to empty your plate. Hindu hosts are never supposed to let their guests’ plates be empty.

  11. Great post, I feel you really captured the key elements of what it means to be happy in a country. Hope, security, economy, government, and education. All these do make a huge impact on the environment. I also agree religion can be a strong factor. I am from the US and we have tons to be happy about but in some ways we lack the connection that many other countries have. I agree that money is not required for happiness, but I think hope is. Sharing this post!

  13. I agree Noel! In my opinion, happiness is reliant on being free, and having the freedom to do what you want and be who you want to be and being comfortable with who you are. Happiness is a by-product of doing things that you enjoy and are passionate about. Democracy is the best environment we have on earth for a country to attain collective happiness, as it gives individuals the best chance to reach their goals, chase their passions and be themselves. Every person on earth, regardless of where they're from and what they believe in has the right to the pursuit of happiness.
